Cooking Experiences in Lisbon
Portuguese & Goan Cuisine
A unique opportunity to visit the home of a local and explore traditional culture and cuisine.

What to expect
A unique opportunity to visit the home of a local and explore traditional culture and cuisine.
Choose from three intimate culinary experiences that connect you with Lisbon’s markets, family kitchens and centuries-old recipes. Each option is limited to small groups, guaranteeing personal attention and hands-on learning.

Begin your journey with a guided stroll through Almada Market, where we source Atlantic seafood, sun-ripened vegetables and artisanal cheeses. I have been visiting the market for my entire life, first going as a young girl with my mother to help carry groceries home.
Many of the vendors still recognize me from when I was a girl! I will point out some typical Portuguese ingredients and you will collect some of the vegetables, meat and fish that you will use during your cooking experience. We will stay at the market about 15-20 minutes before heading home to my apartment to begin your cooking class.

Start your experience with a tour of the neighbourhood market where Paula has been visiting and shopping for decades.

When I get kids in the kitchen with me
Back in my home kitchen, this traditional cooking class teaches you to prepare 2-3 Portuguese and Portuguese-Goan dishes. You will learn to make two appetizers such as pataniscas de bacalhau, traditional Portuguese cod fritters, and Goan bojas, gram flour fritters made with onion and cumin seeds.
Then go on to make a main dish, where you can select between a Portuguese or Goan main dish, such as bacalhau a braz, a traditional Portuguese dish of cod with shredded potatoes and egg, or a Goan curry.
After cooking sit down with me at my dining table. End your meal with a sweet dessert like pastel de nata and coffee or tea. I am always excited to share my culture through food and offer an authentic and traditional cooking class in Lisbon.
