A Culinary Adventure Across Cultures
Join us on a delightful culinary journey as we share the experience of a cooking class with Hsin and her daughter Ntchayi, who came all the way from Taiwan to enjoy their holidays in Portugal and Spain. What makes this cooking class so special is the beautiful blend of cultures that Hsin and Ntchayi represent. Ntchayi is the daughter of a Chinese and Mozambican marriage, showcasing the wonderful mixture of traditions and flavors that are emerging around the world.
Despite the language barrier, the cooking class proved to be an exciting challenge. Ntchayi’s limited English made communication a bit difficult, but it also added an element of fun and adventure to the experience. Through gestures, smiles, and a shared love for food, we were able to overcome the language barrier and create some delicious dishes together.
Our menu for the day included the famous Pataniscas de Bacalau, a traditional Portuguese dish made with codfish. We also prepared a flavorful Beef Curry, showcasing the vibrant spices and aromas of Asian cuisine to attend Ntchayi’s request for meat. To top it all off, we couldn’t resist making some authentic Pasteis de Nata, the iconic Portuguese custard tarts that are loved by locals and tourists alike.
As we cooked and shared stories, it became clear that food has the power to bring people together, transcending language and cultural barriers. The kitchen became a space of connection, where we celebrated the beauty of diversity and the joy of discovering new flavors. This cooking class with Hsin and Ntchayi was not just about learning recipes; it was a celebration of unity and the triumph of good over bad.
So, whether you’re a seasoned cook or a beginner in the kitchen, consider joining me for a cooking class that promises not only delicious food but also a heartwarming experience of cultural exchange and connection.
